After Amazon announced that it was pulling out of its plan to bring HQ2 to Long Island City, Esquire reported on the opponents and supporters of the development plan. While many local politicians and labor leaders opposed the plan, over half of polled New Yorkers supported the plan, as did local realtors like Modern Spaces’ Eric Benaim. As Benaim told the Wall Street Journal, “There is a larger group of people, business owners, and parents’ groups who are excited about Amazon.” Even without the deal, the strength of the market in Long Island City condos was part of what attracted Amazon in the first place, so Benaim is confident that the neighborhood’s future will still be bright.
