Following the announcement that Amazon would create its first New York City job site in Long Island City, the Queens neighborhood has become a sudden hotbed for residential sales. Promising to bring up to 40,000 jobs to the area and infusing the city with $186 billion over the next decade, the company’s move has sparked significant interest in Long Island City condos. “My cell phone started blowing up,” says Eric Benaim, CEO of LIC brokerage firm Modern Spaces. “Over text in the first 24, 30 hours, I sold about 20 apartments…It’s great for not just Long Island City, not just Queens, but New York.”
