The news that Amazon’s HQ2 deal with New York fell through last week resonated around the city. While local politicians called out Amazon for refusing to renegotiate the terms of the deal that would have netted the corporation $3 billion in government incentives, Modern Spaces CEO Eric Benaim was more concerned about “the 25,000 people who won’t have a job.” While the loss to Long Island City stings right now, it does little to affect the underlying strength of the real estate market, which was what drew Amazon to the area in the first place. Modern Spaces has been selling condos in Astoria and LIC for over a decade, and the growing neighborhood will continue to attract major companies and their employees in the near future.
