Long Island City condos have become a hot commodity, thanks to Amazon’s recent announcement that the Queens neighborhood would soon be home to the retail giant’s New York City headquarters. In fact, shortly after the announcement, StreetEasy searches for homes in the neighborhood jumped a staggering 400 percent. “Buyers are hoping it will become the next Silicon Valley and want to be in on that,” says Kayla Lee, a broker with Modern Spaces, a local real estate firm selling the LIC luxury apartments at CORTE. The push to buy was even faster than realtors could have anticipated; says Modern Spaces CEO Eric Benaim, “I sold 20 apartments via text.”
