Forbes is reporting that Amazon has pulled out of its plan to bring HQ2 to Long Island City, citing resistance from local politicians. The move leaves many locals, like Modern Spaces CEO Eric Benaim, puzzled, as they had rallied with local and statewide support for the deal in recent days. However, the strong market for condos in Astoria and Long Island City was what drew Amazon to the area in the first place, and if anyone has confidence and pride in the area, it’s Benaim, who founded Modern Spaces as a local real estate firm over a decade ago and has been growing the business ever since.
