The Best Brunch Spots for Mother’s Day in Jersey City

May 3, 2022

Mark up your calendars and get Mom on the phone! May 8 is Mother’s Day. And what better way to celebrate the special woman in your life than to treat her to a beautiful (and possibly boozy) brunch? From Benedicts to biscuits to beer cocktails, Jersey City has more than its share of brunch spots. We’ve selected four that are guaranteed to leave your mom with a full heart — and a full stomach, too!

Cafe Alyce | 641 Montgomery Street

It might be new in town, but Cafe Alyce is already ranked the No. 3 restaurant in New Jersey by NJ.com. What makes this joint unique is its mixture of Southern and Indian cuisine — think poached egg aloo paratha or crispy bacon fried rice. And the biscuits and gravy? “One of the best breakfast dishes I had all year,” said the NJ.com reviewer. Even better, it’s BYOB; when you take mom along, bring a bottle of bubbles, too.

Latham House | 299 Marin Boulevard

This self-billed “celebration of American food and drink” is a real family affair. It’s run by a father/mother/daughter team with a penchant for whipping up a mean breakfast. Tuck into delightful dishes of huevos rancheros, smoked salmon Benedict, or, if mom has a sweet tooth, the pecan challah French toast. The coffee here is excellent, but, as it’s Mother’s Day, why not splash out on a couple of Caribbean mimosas?

Amelia’s Bistro | 187 Warren Street

Arrive at Amelia’s early, if only to read through its comprehensive brunch menu, packed with breakfast beauts including shrimp and grits, New York strip steak and eggs, lobster hash, and Belgian waffles with fresh strawberries. And that’s before you even get onto the drinks: Treat Mom to a pomegranate dark ‘n’ stormy, or perhaps a cinnamon apple beer cocktail. After this, you’ll be getting a cab back to your Jersey City condo.

Eira Mercearia | 24 Mercer Street

If you’re not able to whisk your mom off to Portugal this year, do the next best thing and book a table at Eira Mercearia. In this uber-cute European cafe, you can feast on serrano ham sandwiches, insanely crispy/gooey pastel de nata (that’s fresh custard tarts to you and me), and wash it all down with what one reviewer called “the best cold brew in Hoboken.” You’ll be in Mom’s good books for at least the next six months.
