Jackson Heights

Jackson Heights is famous for is its historic contributions to urban planning-particularly its Greystone District-where most distinctly the Garden City theory of planning has been realized: large residential complexes centered around private gardens. Hosting one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the country, Jackson Heights has recently drawn many young professionals looking for greenspaces, less expensive housing, and shockingly easy access to Manhattan via the buzzilion subway lines merging at Roosevelt and Broadway two of the most prominent commercial thoroughfares.

The neighborhood is a mix of residential clusters of single/multi-family homes, and large coop apartment buildings featuring arresting architecture. In fact, much of the neighborhood has been landmarked and designated as a National Historic District.

Jackson Heights is also known for its Little India. Situated on 73 and 74th streets just north of Roosevelt Avenue, Little India is a consolidated district featuring South Asian clothing and bridal boutiques, jewelry stores, restaurants, and a vast variety of Indian food and other import stores. Mmmm… enjoy the curry.
